The Real Life Super Hero Project – Peter Tangen

Peter Tangen has been receiving alot of publicity recently for his project featuring The Real Life Super Hero Project, including a great write up in the UK’s Telegraph Newspaper.

The Real Life Superhereos
are a network of men and women spread across the USA who in their free time help their communities in any way they can whether fighting crime, feeding the homeless or cleaning up their neighbourhoods, all while dressed in spandex and masks.

Peter Tangen, a photographer with a close relationship to the superhero/comic book genre having shot posters for all 3 Spiderman movies as well as Fantastic4, Hellboy and Batman Begins, was drawn to the story of real people trying to make a difference in a fun and unique way and offered his time and unique photographic style to help document The Real Life Super Heroes.

At first, The Real Life Superhero Project was conceived as an avenue to shine some light on this new breed of activism and altruism, through a photographic installation to benefit the established organizations the superheroes believe in. But as more people were brought into the wholly volunteer project, largely through Tangen’s infectious enthusiasm, the scope and purpose expanded exponentially.

Now, what began as a gallery exhibit, has come to serve as the launching pad of something far greater—a living, breathing community that inspires people to become the positive forces for change we all can be. To become more active, more involved, more committed, and perhaps, a little super in the process.
