Joey L has captured the dying traditions within Ethiopia for the past 12 years, particularly fixating on the Southern tribe ‘The Dassanach’ for this project. The Dassanach occupied the arid desert surrounding Lake Turkana long before the country of Ethiopia existed. Joey L follows members of the tribe as they hop in wooden canoes and risk their lives to hunt massive man-eating crocodiles with wooden harpoons in the middle of the night. With the indigenous tradition on the verge of extinction, Joey manages to explore this journey and capture this experience in a documentary on VICE.
